Charleston Fashion Week 2014 Begins!

Today marks the start of Charleston’s 2014 Fashion Week. For five days, beginning March 18th, foreign and local designers, models, and fashioneastas converge on Marion Square to pay homage to budding trendsetters in the industry.

Unlike the larger fashion weeks of Cannes, New York, or Los Angeles, where a few famous names guard the limelight, CHSFW’s mission statement is to showcase “emerging designer and model talent across the East Coast”.

The five-night event will host over 35 runway shows – including the Emerging Designer Competition, the Spring Bridal Show, and the Rock the Runway Model Competition.

Since its 2007 start, Charleston Fashion Week has launched the careers of several models and designers, including featured designer of this year’s showcase Oberima Afriyie. Last year, the Ghana-born, Spartanburg, SC native wowed audience members and panel judges alike with his distinct menswear collection, enough to win him the 2013 CFW Emerging Designer Competition. Now in 2014 he returns to CFW as one of five designers with a feature show.

Be sure to make it to the “Official CFW After-Party”, hosted by Ayoka Lucas on Saturday, March 22nd from 9:30pm to 2:00am. A $35 ticket gets you access to boutique cocktail lounges and a pop up runway show featuring guests selected by CFW models.

So put on your best threads and enjoy the glam. More info can be found the fashion week’s website. Watch for the #CHSFW hashtag, and have a ball!
